Is any body near Moraine , Ohio & could possibly take in a rabbit?

http://dayton.craigslist.org/pet/1541257599.html

This guy says he's going to "let them go" if nobody takes them.

If you know of a rscue that would take them I'll e-mail it to him.  How could anybody turn PET rabbits loose, especially considering we are supposed to be getting quite a bit of snow over the next few days!?!?!?!?!  Hopefully he is just threatening to turn them loose, but I doubt it.

Anybody here have experience with Flemish Giants?

I've fallen in love with and am considering adopting a bonded male/female pair of 5 month old Flemish Giants up for adoption at one of my local rescues. I became totally infatuated with them due to their "gentle giant" nature, but I haven't had a bun in years, and what breeds I had were small lops and mini rexes. Totally different realm from a giant breed. Right now they're spending their days in a little cage without much exercise and attention. Nobody that's come to see them so far has wanted to go through with adopting them. I guess the potential for their large size at adulthood is rather intimidating to potential adoptees. I'm so tempted to just sign the papers and run off with them since I feel so horrible for them for having been stuck there for so long. But I want to be sure I know what I'm getting into before I dive in.

I've been doing research here and there on their breed for the past couple weeks, and I know how big they'll get, about how much food they'll consume and whatnot, but as for housing and what to really expect from them as a pet, I'm not sure. I haven't really talked to anyone that actually owns one, much less two. If I adopt them, they'll be house bunnies for sure. But I'll have to confine them at some point...like when I'm away from the house and at night for their safety and all.

Obvious a "normal" size rabbit cage or hutch isn't going to work. I was thinking an extra large wire dog crate with the pan bottom, and just letting them have supervised free run of the house during the day and outside time. Do you think that'd suffice? But should I house them together or separately?

Anything else that a new Flemish owner should be advised on and know about?

I'd really appreciate any info any of you might have.

JetStar International Flights

Hey Sydneysiders,

I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with flying JetStar internationally? I'm looking at booking some tickets leaving in around 2 weeks because they are so cheap it seems stupid not to go. But I don't know if this enough time for all the right information to reach me from the airline? Will it all be email or will they post information? I've always used a travel agent before so I'm a little nervous about doing it myself, and not wanting to mess anything up an incur fees greater than the cost of the ticket.

Any advice is appreciated...especially if you live in the inner west :)

Bento Central

This is my turkey helper lunch from yesterday in my new Miffy box.

I launched a new bento site today called Bento Central, which is sort of like an online bento newspaper. I'd love it if you all would give it a try!

Wild Caught Pigeons

I don't know if this qualifies as stupid pet owner....

I was browsing the classifieds of a local news group (it is more popular than Craigslist in Utah)and this is what I found.

Can I report this to some ONE? Animal cruelty is a felony in Utah....

happy new year everyone!!

've been making bentos regularly, and have just gotten lazy w/the picture-taking (however, I am continually amazed and impressed by the quality of bentos shared on here!!). lucky-ducky me, I scored some sweet bento-making lootz for xmas this year, and today was my first day trying them out.

my husband's bento today.

he had a nice feta-topped salad w/a dressing pig in one half, and purple potatoes, chicken nugget halves, and suuuuper-cute sweet-rice shapes (with wee carrot hearts thanks to my new micro-mini cutters!). oooh, I totally added furikake to his rice after I took this pic, and didn't take a new one. dang. imagine that his flower had a little center of seeds, too. :P

my lunch today.

looking at it now, the half on the left looks like a weird face. O_O that was not intended, but is neat! I got the other 2 rice shapes from the set of 4, more purple potatoes, and chicken nugget halves in that container. the other half held baby tomatoes, asparagus topped w/more carrot hearts, carrot and cucumber slices, a raspberry, and a lil' swiss cheese cube.

oh ho ho! funny how new tools result in a renewed spirit of creativity! (btw, if you're curious, I have added all the bentos I haven't shared yet over here to this set, just to get 'em up)

Bento #9: first bento of 2010, first onigiri, and a new box!

One of my New Year's resolutions is to cook more Asian food. I used to be afraid of making rice, believe it or not, and other than stir frying some vegetables and adding soy sauce, I've never really attempted anything outside my comfort zone of Western cuisine. So here is my first bento to contain onigiri!

They turned out yummy, even if my photography wasn't the best. The one on the left is triangular-shaped and filled with a store-bought furikake. The one on the right is plain.

The top tier contains leftover salmon with a honey mustard glaze and baby carrots. It was a good lunch, but I almost wish I had only packed one onigiri and used the rest of the space for another vegetable or protein.

This was also my first time using a new bento box! )

A stupid and horrible sugar glider vet

I stumbled upon this video http://www.youtube.com/user/sugarglidervet#p/u/12/kjAd_SCnYW4
yesterday, of a "vet" giving out information on sugar gliders. I couldn't even listen to to the entire thing without getting steamed! I am part of a small pet rescue and we have had MANY sugar gliders given up over the years. Many that are injured ,ill, malnourished and unsocialized. He gets right into calling rescues false and continues to bash them!
The cage behind him is way to small for even one sugar glider but that is what he recommends. He also says it is okay for sugar gliders to be alone as long as they get attention from a person. Which is very bad! The company of a fellow sugar glider cannot be replaced by a person. His diet recomendations are bad... it's all BAD!
He is funded and supports the leading Sugar glider Mill of the US, Perfect Pocket Pets. Their tactics and information are just as false and smiliar to what this vet says.
I have to wonder if he really is a vet. If so, what true vet would support a mill breeder? Give out such awful advice? And bash rescues? I also wonder if all the "clients" are imaginary.
All comments submitted are screened and only good ones are put up on the web site.
What are your thoughts on this? Any info? I fear people buying into all the crap he says!

does anyone know if continuous prolonged restricting/purging would have an effect on focus/concentration even after behaviors have ended for a significant period of time?

Seeking housemate - $90 p/w

Room for rent: $90 per week in a fairly spacious (but not particularly shiny) 3 bedroom unit. Has access to a large flat roof space for plants, meditation, morning yoga, deployment of small plastic paratroopers etc. Wireless internet optional.

It is in Strathfield, which is still technically in the inner west, and also is connected well to places that aren't Strathfield with 4 different bus lines within 100m of the house, and it is a ~15min train trip to the city from Strathfield station.

Vegan or vegetarian highly preferred. Queer friendly household. Shy people welcome too :)

Bento # 682

Variations on a theme... I wasn't home from work until almost 3:30 am, and my imagination had gone to bed by then. So saved by the fact that my kid loves sausage rolls AND it's one of the things that never seem to be out of stock, even late at night in 7-Eleven.. well.. there you are.. another sausage roll-monster...

If you could choose all the characterists for a "perfect" boyfriend/girlfriend, what would they be? Do you really think you could date the "perfect" boyfriend or girlfriend or do you think it's their imperfections that make you love them?

poor cold kitty

So, there's a kitty in my parking lot. Very friendly, but very cold (I live in MN). She has tags. Yay.
I call the owner, who is seriously annoyed with me. "She's an OUTDOOR/indoor cat, I'm so sick of these calls!" Um, how the hell am I to know that? She could have just gotten out, and it's 9 degrees out. Not to mention, this kitty lives over a mile away from my place. I ended up convincing the owner to come out here, as it is so darn cold out, but she was visibly pissed at me. Sorry for caring about your chilly cat. :(

The first bentos of the new year

Happy New Year everyone! First "business" day of the new year and the kidlet and I had a lunch function at school so I splurged and did two charaben to start the New Year right!

My favorite Sanrio character is Badtz Maru so I made myself an onigiri, encased it in nori and cut out the eyes and mouth out of cheese.  Badtz Maru has several sidekicks; the one pictured here is Hana Maru (I think.) who is a molded egg with the face picked out in nori with sesame seeds for eyes. They are surrounded by succotash, Japanese spinach, radish pickles and some gyoza.

More pics and notes... )
